Summer is coming! + new free zine

The summer solstice is just around the corner, which means it’s time for a new seasonal mini zine! This summer edition is the final installment in the seasonal mini zine series that Rebecca Minifie and I started last fall (which feels like a lifetime ago).

Savor the summer!

You can download the summer zine (or any of the others) as a free PDF from my website here. Or, if you live in Yamhill County, in a few days you can pick up a free printed and folded copy at Alchemist’s Jam in McMinnville or Chapters in Newberg! I hope that this zine brings you as much joy as it brought us to make it.

Summer thoughts …

I also hope that the summer solstice brings the Pacific Northwest some summer-y weather! This has been one of the wettest and coolest springs on record. Here on our farm, we have had literally only a handful of days dry enough to work ground and plant outside in the fields. And the plants that are outside aren’t growing very quickly. It’s hard to believe that just under a year ago our region hit all-time high record temperatures (an experience we’d prefer to avoid!). What a weird series of years for weather!

But rainy weather has been good for writing and illustrating. As always, you can check out what I’ve been up to via my Instagram account and website. I have two big projects coming up and I’m clearing my plate to make room for them. I keep thinking that I’m ready to share news about them, but not quite yet! Soon, hopefully!

While I wait for sun and for big news to share, I’ll keep on doing what I love best this month: hiking with the family, puttering in the garden as much as I can, drawing, and writing.

And, even in a strange year, June is a special unique month with its own joys and flavors. In honor of this “almost-but-not-quite-summer” season, here is a new illustration in homage of what we’re eating and enjoy right now.

Bright summer joy to you!

Katie Kulla
