New article: farming & parenting!

My own kids, Dottie and Rusty, “helping” their farmer-dad Casey back in 2014.

Many of you know that I’ve been working for several months now on an article about how farmers who are also parents balance the work of caring for their farm and children.

The article is now out in February’s Growing for Market magazine! Is it being offering it as a free article on their website, which you can read here.

Writing truthfully about farming and parenting takes a village! THANK YOU to all the busy farmer-parents who shared their experiences and diverse perspectives with me.

But, this story isn’t done yet. In the same time that I’ve been working on this article, I’ve also been working toward a bigger project exploring the same topic in a more extended way. More to come, so stay tuned! (And farmer-parents, I may be reaching out to you again!)

Sneak peek of my article in the print edition of this month’s Growing for Market magazine.

In the meantime, it’s February, which is such an unpredictable winter month in these parts of Oregon. It can be icy and snowy or beautiful and sunny or endlessly gray and dreary. It usually leans toward the harder options. Thankfully it is only 28 days long!

But there are good things too, including the continued eating of delicious winter foods. In the spirit of savoring the goodness of the season, I recently drew a little love letter to February’s farm foods and I thought I’d share it with you (see below).

May February be gentle with you!
